Museum display honors Milliken’s Bend
The Vicksburg Post just announced a new exhibit at the Vicksburg Civil War Museum, honoring the Union soldiers who fought at Milliken’s Bend. “Courage. Sacrifice. Freedom.” it proclaims. Remarking that most of the men who died at Milliken’s Bend now lie in unknown graves at Vicksburg National Cemetery, it announces: “Unknown by name. Identified by deed.” Now, these men are no longer unknown. Their names appear on this memorial wall at the Vicksburg Civil War Museum. Compiled by historian Isaiah Tadlock after years of sleuthing, more than 1000 men appear on the list.
Thank you to museum owner Charles Pendleton and the Vicksburg Civil War Museum for memorializing these American heroes. They and their deeds must not be forgotten.
