Milliken’s Bend is now on TikTok thanks to a talented songwriter!

It was my fervent hope that when I wrote my book about Milliken’s Bend in 2013, that it would “serve as one part of a multifaceted beginning of remembrance for a battle too long forgotten.” “Perhaps at last the men who fought on the Louisiana levee will get their due – and be remembered,” I wrote (p. 182).

Indeed, over the course of the past decade I have begun to see this come to pass. I do not claim any special credit – there are many factors that have driven this – but I do hope that my book has contributed to some of the recognition that this battle has received, in both popular and scholarly circles.

So I was surprised and thrilled when I received an alert that some Milliken’s Bend content had been posted to TikTok. Now, it certainly can be said that Milliken’s Bend has entered the mainstream!  McFlySongwriter has posted a music video for his song “Around the Bend,” a tribute to the men who fought for Freedom that day. Here’s to McFly – with gratitude and appreciation for keeping the memory alive, and using his talents to do so!
